Greatest Philosopher
The BBC’s Radio 4 conducted a poll asking who is the greatest philosopher. The results can be found here. The winner was Karl Marx with 27.93% of the vote, more than double the votes of the second place finisher, David Hume. It could have been worse I suppose. They could have included Ayn Rand as a candidate. But really, Karl Marx? Are we supposed to believe that he was a better philosopher than Hume, Wittgenstein, Nietzsche, Plato, Kant, Aquinas, Socrates, Aristotle, and Popper? He doesn’t even qualify for “Best Philosopher Named Karl”.
